      Ahmer Ali, M.D. is board-certified in neurology and fellowship trained in epilepsy/EEG, neurophysiology and sleep medicine. He completed his adult neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship (with advanced training in both EEG and EMG) at the University of Chicago. He completed his sleep medicine fellowship at Northwestern University.


      Ameer Alwafai, M.D.

      Ameer Alwafai, M.D. is board certified in Neurology and Neurocritical care. He graduated from Beirut Arab University in Lebanon before moving to Florida to do 1 year of research at the university of Florida in Gainesville he studied creativity and its relationships with intelligence and personality. Dr. AlWafai then did his residency training in Memphis, Tennessee taking care of a many stroke victims. Dr. AlWafai Moved into Chicagoland area where he completed his specialized training in Neurocritical care at Rush University. He developed special interest in long term monitoring in the Neuro ICU and he has been a focus in his practice.

      Daniele M. Anderson, M.D. was born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. She graduated from Rolling Meadows High School in 1987. She received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. While there, she met her husband, as they were both members of the USC Trojan Marching Band. (Fight On!)


      Malgorzata Bach, M.D.

      Malgorzata Bach, M.D. is Board Certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She earned her medical degree from Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum in Krakow, Poland, graduating class of 1999. Dr. Bach completed her neurology residency and fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI.


      Megan Baldassarre, PsyD.

      Neuropsychologist


      Dr. Baldassarre is board certified in clinical neuropsychology. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She then attended The Chicago School where she obtained her doctorate in clinical psychology, with a specialization in neuropsychology. Dr. Baldassarre completed her internship (‘2014) and fellowship (‘2016) in Adult Neuropsychology/Brain Imaging at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She joined Northwest Neurology in May, 2018.


      Barry Bikshorn, M.D.

      Barry Bikshorn, M.D. was born in 1957, and raised in the Chicago area. He is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. Dr. Bikshorn did a medical internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and then returned to Rush to complete his neurology residency.

      Andrea Dellaria, M.D. is a board certified neurologist. She joins Northwest Neurology after completing her fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Chicago. She received her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, IL. Andrea Dellaria, M.D. completed her medical internship at NorthShore University Health System and her neurology residency at the University of Chicago in 2017.


      Elizabeth Flaherty, M.D.

      Elizabeth Flaherty, M.D. grew up in Crystal Lake, IL. She went on to attend the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where she graduated Magna Cum Lade. She received her medical degree from Rush Medical College in 2010, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. She completed neurology residency at Rush University Medical Center, where she served as chief resident, and remained there to complete her fellowship in neurophysiology (EEG/epilepsy and EMG/neuromuscular). Dr. Flaherty is board certified in neurology as well as clinical neurophysiology.

      Andrew Gordon, M.D. is Board Certified in Neurology. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and he attended medical school at Northwestern University Medical School, graduating class of 1999. He completed his neurology residency and neuromuscular disease/EMG and neurophysiology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Resident.


      Andrew R. Grover, PA-C.

      Andrew R. Grover, PA-C. is a native of Wisconsin. He completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and then moved to Illinois to attend Physician Assistant School in 2008. Andrew received his Physician Assistant Degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 2010. He worked in pain management for a few years and during that time acquired a strong interest in neurology. He currently is practicing all forms of general neurology, but has subspecialty interests in polyneuropathies including Guillain Barre as well as epilepsy and seizure disorders.


      George Katsamakis, M.D.

      George Katsamakis, M.D. has devoted his interest in Neurology to the care of patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Prior to joining Northwest Neurology, he was an Assistant Professor at the Rush University Multiple Sclerosis Center, managing complex MS cases as well as participating in and spearheading novel therapeutic trials in the field. Seeing the need for advanced care outside Chicago, he conceived and directs the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Northwest Neurology. The Center provides comprehensive and compassionate care for over 1500 patients with Multiple Sclerosis.


      Aslam M. Khaja, M.D.

      Aslam M. Khaja, M.D. joins Northwest Neurology after working at Northwestern Medicine as a neuro-critical care/vascular neurology attending. Prior to working at Northwestern, he was an attending neurologist at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also worked as a neuro-critical care/vascular neurology specialist. He attended medical school at Northeast Ohio University, neurology residency at University of Cincinnati, and he completed his neuro-critical care/vascular neurology fellowship at University of Texas at Houston.

      M.D. joins Northwest Neurology after working at Northwestern Medicine as a neuro-critical care/vascular neurology attending. Prior to working at Northwestern, he was an attending neurologist at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also worked as a neuro-critical care/vascular neurology specialist. He attended medical school at Northeast Ohio University, neurology residency at University of Cincinnati, and he completed his neuro-critical care/vascular neurology fellowship at University of Texas at Houston.

      Ahmir H. Khan, M.D., Ph.D. was raised in the western suburbs. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College Of Medicine along with his Ph.D in Physiology and Biophysics. He did his Internal Medicine Internship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and his Neurology Residency and Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine.

      Rumyana Krouleva, FNP is a Certified Nurse Practitioner. She completed Chamberlain University Masters of Nursing. She is very passionate and interested in practicing neurology within a hospital setting. Being in the hospital setting allows her to see patients with all areas of neurological needs. Her primary interests include complex migraines, stroke syndromes, and neuropathy.

      Donald T. Kuhlman, M.D. attended the University of Illinois for medical school. In addition to internship and residency, he completed an Electroencephalography/Epilepsy fellowship at the University of Illinois as well. He is board certified in neurology, and he continues to have interests across neurology, with subspecialty interests in epilepsy and seizure disorders.

      Karim R. Nahra, M.D. was born and raised in the Chicago area. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He performed his medical internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He then completed Neurology residency at the University of Iowa, where he stayed for an additional fellowship in clinical neurophysiology. Prior to joining Northwest Neurology, he practiced surgical intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring and went on to practice primarily inpatient-based neurology.

      Sohal Patel, M.D. is a board-certified Neurohospitalist serving Alexian Brothers Medical Center, St. Alexius Medical Center, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Advocate Sherman Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital, and Advocate Condell Hospital. He graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He completed internship training in Internal Medicine and a Neurology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He possess fellowship training in Neurocritical Care from Rush University Medical Center.

She received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed her internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

      Manisha Sahay, M.D. joins Northwest Neurology after finishing her fellowship in Women’s Neurology at Northwestern University. She received her medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed her medical internship and neurology residency at Northwestern University. Dr. Sahay is Board Certified in Neurology.


      Kelly Schaeffer, NP

      Nurse Practioner


      Kelly Schaeffer, NP is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and in Nursing prior to obtaining her Master’s degree in Nursing from Northern Illinois University. Her passion for neurology started with her career where she worked as a neurology nurse. She worked as part of the team that was able to transform the hospital to a comprehensive stroke center. This led to her passion for caring for patient’s that have had ischemic or hemorrhagic events.


      Syema Sheikh, M.D.

      Dr. Syema Imran Sheikh is a board certified neurologist. She specializes in general neurology, neurophysiology and sleep medicine.

      Dr. Sheikh received a Bachelor of Arts degree in neuropsychology from Northwestern University. She subsequently earned her Doctorate in Medicine at Chicago Medical School. She then continued her medical training at the University of Chicago, where she completed a residency in Neurology and fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. During residency, Dr. Sheikh served as the Chief Resident of University of Chicago’s Neurology training program.

      Sanford Sherman, M.D. has been practicing at Northwest Neurology since 1988. He was born and raised in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his Medical Degree from Rush University Medical School. He interned in Internal Medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center and he completed his Residency in Neurology and Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He helped develop and is the Physician Director of the award-winning stroke program at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center, and serves as a member of the Neurosciences Advisory Board of the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Health Network. He is also the Past-President of Northwest Neurology.

      Stephen Trevick, M.D. is Board Certified in both Neurology and Psychiatry and is Board Eligible in Neurocritical Care. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Biology from the University of Chicago followed by medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago completed in 2009. His Neurology and Psychiatry training was at New York University and Neurocritical Care at Northwestern University.


      Lisa Jackson, A.P.N.

      Lisa Jackson, C.N.P. is a native of Baltimore, MD. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She began her Master’s studies at Johns Hopkins University, transferring to The University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree. She completed clinical internships at both Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Jackson relocated to the Chicago area in 2004, and has been on staff at Northwest Neurology, Ltd since.


      Susan McMillan, A.P.N.

      Nurse Practioner


      Susan McMillan, NP is an adult nurse practitioner who specializes in neurology and oncology. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Loyola University, Chicago and then earned her Masters and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at Rush University, Chicago. She holds a national certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and obtained national certification with the American Academy of Neuroscience Nurses. Ms. McMillan is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Multiple Sclerosis Nurse.
