Zara Schulman, M.D. specialty is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), an area of medicine focused on improving and optimizing patients’ functional abilities so that they may more fully enjoy and participate in activities they need or want to do. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and she attended medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Her practice includes many aspects of general physiatry, with a focus on neurorehabilitation including management of spasticity, a type of muscle tightness often seen in patients with strokes, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, and brain injuries. She has extensive training in the use of botulinum toxins (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) and intrathecal baclofen pumps to treat spasticity, as well as the use of botulinum toxins to treat torticollis/cervical dystonia, sialorrhea, and hyperhidrosis.
Dr. Schulman also performs electromyography/nerve conduction studies, and is interested in the management of patients with amputations.
